Which Scooter Fits Your Da Nang Trip? Lead, Air Blade, PCX, NMAX, ADV & More (2026)

When travelers ask which scooter to rent in Da Nang, the useful question is rarely "125cc or 160cc?" by itself.

What usually matters more is much more practical:

• Do you have a backpack, shopping bags or a lot of daily luggage?
• Will you ride with a passenger?
• Are you shorter or worried about getting both feet down?
• Do larger scooters feel awkward when parking or making a slow U-turn?
• Will you ride mostly short city trips or spend long days on the scooter?
• Is ABS a requirement for you?
• Are you trying to keep the daily price low?
• Do you actually have recent scooter-riding experience?

This guide starts with those needs and then points you toward the AKi models worth comparing first. Specifications are used only to explain the recommendation, not to turn the article into a technical data sheet.

Quick answer: which scooter should you compare first?

These are starting points, not universal rules. Rental bikes can differ by year and trim, so the final decision should be based on the exact bike you receive.

I have a lot of luggage. What should I rent?

Start with the Honda Lead 125.

For this requirement, storage matters more than engine size.

Honda Vietnam currently lists more than 37 litres of under-seat storage for the LEAD and says the compartment can accommodate two large full-face helmets plus personal items. That makes the Lead the clearest first model to inspect if you regularly carry a backpack, rain gear, shopping or a helmet.

AKi's current published price is also 140,000 VND/day, so you do not have to move into a more expensive 155–160cc scooter just to gain practical storage.

The Lead is a particularly sensible first comparison if you:

• carry a backpack or shopping most days;
• want rain gear and a helmet out of your hands when parked;
• dislike riding with a bag on your back;
• also prefer a lower seat.

A published litre figure does not guarantee that your exact suitcase, camera bag or helmet will fit. If your luggage is important, ask for a photo of the actual rental-bike storage or test your bag at pickup.

If you want a roomier premium scooter as well, compare the PCX 160. Honda Philippines' current PCX160 references show a 30L utility box, but that is another market and should not be treated as the exact specification of AKi's rental unit.

I am shorter or worried about reaching the ground

Sit on the Lead 125 first, then compare the Yamaha LEXI 155.

Current manufacturer reference figures put them among the lower-seat candidates in this group:

Honda Philippines lists a 764mm seat for its PCX160 reference model, but AKi's PCX 160 may be a different year or market specification, so the actual bike matters more than the number.

There is no honest rule such as "160cm tall = rent model X." Ground reach also depends on seat width, inseam, footwear, suspension sag and how the specific scooter carries its weight.

At pickup, check whether you can:

• hold the scooter upright at a stop without panic;
• turn the handlebar fully left and right while balanced;
• push it forward and backward in a parking space;
• support it confidently with the foot position you normally use.

If low seat height is your priority, Lead is the first bike to try. If you want a 155cc candidate without immediately moving to a taller-feeling scooter, LEXI is the next useful comparison.

I will mostly ride around the city. Do I need a big scooter?

If you already know how to ride but do not enjoy moving a large scooter around at low speed, compare the Air Blade 125 and Lead 125 before jumping to a larger model.

Honda Vietnam's current Air Blade 125 reference is about 110kg, 687mm wide and 775mm at the seat. The Lead is slightly heavier, but its 760mm seat is lower and its storage is much larger.

That creates a simple practical split.

Try Air Blade 125 first if:

• you mainly ride solo;
• you care more about a relatively light, slim scooter than maximum storage;
• parking, pushing the bike and low-speed manoeuvres are what make larger scooters feel awkward.

Try Lead 125 first if:

• ground reach matters more;
• you carry more luggage;
• you want a practical city scooter rather than a larger touring-style scooter.

Both are currently listed by AKi at 140,000 VND/day. There is little reason to pay for a bigger engine just because it exists if the smaller model already fits your real use better.

This is not a claim that a smaller scooter is automatically safer. It is simply easier to choose a bike you can physically manage with confidence.

We are two people. Which models should we compare first?

Start with the Yamaha NMAX 155 and Honda PCX 160.

This recommendation is about seating and load information, not simply engine size.

Yamaha Vietnam describes the current NMAX's stepped seat as designed for both rider and passenger comfort. It also publishes 24L under-seat storage and a 167kg maximum load for the current standard version.

That makes NMAX unusually easy to evaluate for two-up use because the Vietnam manufacturer provides more of the information travelers actually need.

PCX 160 is the second model worth sitting on. Honda Philippines' current references emphasize a wider seating layout, useful legroom and a 30L utility box. Those figures are helpful for understanding the model, but do not assume the AKi rental bike is the same year or market version.

Consider ADV 160 after those two if the rider is comfortable with a taller, larger-feeling scooter. Honda Philippines' current ADV160 reference uses a 780mm seat and 165mm ground clearance.

Before accepting any scooter for two people, check the actual bike for:

• permitted load shown by its manual or label;
• passenger seat and footrests;
• rider + passenger + luggage total load;
• tyre and brake condition;
• whether the rider can still hold, park and make slow turns comfortably with the extra weight.

Do not reduce the decision to "160cc is better for two people." A larger engine does not fix poor fit, excessive load or weak low-speed control.

I expect long riding days. What is worth paying more for?

Compare NMAX 155 and PCX 160 first. Add ADV 160 if you genuinely like its taller adventure-style layout.

For a longer day, comfort is usually a better reason to spend more than engine displacement alone.

NMAX is a strong first comparison because Yamaha explicitly gives it rider-and-passenger seating, 24L storage and a larger overall layout than the compact city models.

PCX 160 is worth comparing if you prefer its seating position and roomier scooter feel. The current Honda Philippines material highlights comfort, wider seating and 30L storage.

ADV 160 becomes interesting when you specifically value a taller riding position, more ground clearance and wind protection. Honda Philippines' current 2026 ADV160 material lists a 780mm seat, 165mm ground clearance, adjustable windscreen and 30L luggage box.

But if you are mostly making short city trips, none of those features automatically justifies paying more. Pay for a requirement you will actually use.

ABS is important to me. Which model should I request?

If ABS is non-negotiable, the cleanest AKi booking request is Honda Vario 160 ABS.

AKi currently lists Vario 160 CBS and Vario 160 ABS as separate rental models, so you can specify the ABS version rather than assuming every Vario has the same braking system.

Current Yamaha Vietnam versions of LEXI 155, NVX 155 and NMAX 155 also use ABS, but a rental fleet may contain different years or trims. Ask AKi to confirm the exact unit you will receive.

Do not choose based on the model name alone, and do not treat ABS as a substitute for good tyres, sound brakes, sensible speed and riding skill.

I am on a budget. Where should I start?

Current AKi published daily prices give a useful starting point:

If your needs are simple city travel, manageable size and ordinary luggage, Lead or Air Blade may already solve the problem at the lowest published 125cc price.

The fact that NVX 155 or Vario 160 CBS costs only 10,000 VND/day more does not automatically make it the better rental. If a lower seat, larger storage or easier low-speed handling matters more, the cheaper scooter can still be the better choice.

I am tall or feel cramped on compact scooters

If your problem is the opposite of ground reach — you feel folded up or cramped on smaller scooters — compare NMAX 155, PCX 160 and ADV 160 in person.

Do not choose from your height alone. Two riders of the same height can have very different inseams, torso lengths and preferred knee angles.

The useful check is whether you can sit naturally with:

• relaxed knees and hips;
• comfortable handlebar reach;
• enough room to turn the bars without your knees interfering;
• a stable feet-down position at a stop;
• manageable weight when parking and turning slowly.

The right scooter is the one that gives you room without becoming awkward to control at low speed.

I want a PCX. Should I choose 125, 150 or 160?

AKi currently lists three different PCX options:

• PCX 125 Gen 2 — 150,000 VND/day
• PCX 150 — 180,000 VND/day
• PCX 160 — 300,000 VND/day

Do not treat them as the same scooter with three engine choices. They can be different generations, markets and equipment levels.

A practical way to compare them is:

• choose PCX 125 as the first look if you mainly want the PCX format at the lowest current price;
• compare PCX 150 if the actual bike feels better to you and the small price increase is worthwhile;
• compare PCX 160 when you specifically want the newer, roomier premium end of the PCX family and are comfortable with the higher price.

Do not copy current PCX160 specifications onto an older PCX 125 or PCX 150. Inspect the exact rental unit.

I have little or no scooter experience. Which model is safest?

None of these models should be marketed as a safe shortcut for someone who does not know how to ride.

A lighter 125cc scooter can feel less intimidating when you push it around a parking space, but real riding still requires balance, progressive braking, observation, turning, hazard awareness and traffic judgement.

If you already ride scooters and simply dislike heavy or tall models, Air Blade 125 or Lead 125 are sensible first comparisons.

If you have essentially no real scooter experience, choosing a smaller engine is not the solution. Use Grab, a taxi, another transport option, or get proper supervised training away from live traffic.

Do I really need an ADV 160?

For many ordinary Da Nang trips, no.

ADV 160 is worth comparing when you specifically like its taller riding position, higher ground clearance, windscreen and larger adventure-style layout — and you can comfortably handle it.

If your actual needs are city errands, luggage, lower seat height or low price, Lead, Air Blade, LEXI or another smaller model may solve the problem more directly.

Do not rent ADV 160 simply because it is one of the more expensive scooters in the fleet. Choose it because its layout fits what you want to do.

Before booking, ask these practical questions

The most useful questions are about the exact rental bike, not the brochure:

• What exact model, engine size, year or generation will I receive?
• Is the actual rental unit the ABS or CBS trim?
• Can you confirm the permitted load for this exact bike if I have a passenger and luggage?
• Can I see a photo of the actual under-seat storage?
• Can I sit on two candidate models before choosing?
• Can I check tyres, brakes, lights and controls at pickup?
• What is the final price for my exact rental dates?

Do not start with "Which scooter has the biggest engine?"

Start with your actual problem:

• luggage → Lead 125;
• low seat / ground reach → Lead 125, then LEXI 155;
• manageable city scooter → Air Blade 125 or Lead 125;
• two people → NMAX 155, then PCX 160;
• long riding days → NMAX 155 or PCX 160, with ADV 160 as a conditional alternative;
• ABS required → request a clearly identified ABS trim;
• lowest budget → Lead 125 or Air Blade 125 first;
• no real riding experience → do not try to solve that by choosing a smaller scooter.

Then sit on the actual bike, check its condition and choose the one that fits you, not the one with the most impressive number on the spec sheet.
